This issue has been solved. See solution.

Today for some reason our NS just started crawling and all the screens are timing out before they finish to load.  I looked at the event logs and it is full of errors complaining about "Power Management".  Does anyone know what could be causing this and how I can fix it?

Thanks!

Sid

Exact errors from Event Log?

Can you post an example of the error from the NS log regarding power management?  Does the exact same error repeat itself, or do they occur differently each time?  If so, paste a contrasting example.

I think I have seen that before

I had something similar happen in our environment because I had set up an inventory job to run during the day and I accidentally checked the "Power up the computer (Wake On Lan)" setting on the general tab of the task.  It immediately started running a SQL query that took about 800 seconds to complete and started sending out wake on lan packets across the network.  Now I double check to make sure I only have that checked if we are running the inventory or push at night.

Check the tasks you enabled recently, especially if the task is set to run during the day and think about disabling that setting if possible.

Hope that helps.

That did the trick!

This problem has happened on and off over the past year or so and I have never been able to track down the cause.  Come to think of it, it started happening when we got wak on lan set up here and I started checking that box. Usually we only push at night, but I did set up a job to run during the day.  I unchecked the box, restarted all the services and IIS just for good measure (maybe not necessary, but I wanted it to recognise the change immediatly and stop sending out packets and running queries) and all the power management errors stopped.

My console is now usable once again.
Thanks for your help!  I will make sure I only use that box for night time pushes in the future.

Glad it worked

I'm glad you got it working.  Nothing is more frustrating then not being able to work because the console won't respond and not knowing what to do about it.

Have a good one.
