  • 1.  Prepare for Image Capture Task Fails to Run

    Posted Dec 27, 2013 09:48 AM

    Good day everyone,

I am looking for a solution to a problem I am having while testing DS 7.5. I have been following the putting it all together series for DS 7.1 but have not been able to successfully capture an image - the PIAT Part 3 section. As far as I can tell, everything has been setup properly in the task and job, but maybe I am missing something.

The problem that I encounter is that the task is delivered to the client machine, but the task never seems to run. The client says that the task is running, but it is clear that sysprep is not in fact running, as there is no disk activity. After about 90 minutes, the task will returned as failed for not completing in the allowed time (error -1001).

The prepare for image capture task has been created exactly the same way as shown in PIAT Part 3 with the exception of using Windows 7 Pro SP1 X64 as the OS Type to match my client system (screenshots attached).

Thanks in advance for any support!

UPDATE: It appears that the issue of actually running Sysprep may have been isolated to that one box. However, when the sysprep successfuly completed on the second box, the system rebooted into Windows instead of booting to PXE to be captured as specified in the prepare for image capture task. Any suggestions? I have found this article that appears to be related, but the steps to reach the solutions listed are unclear - could anyone give more step-by-step instructions for how to impliment these solutions? http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH212019

if you run a reboot to PXE task manually, does that work on that machine?

    Sally,

I can boot to PXE manually but that does not seem to resolve the issue since the server is still waiting for the first task to complete successfully. Essentially, if I boot the system into PXE manually it will connect but do nothing.

I tried running the create an image task manually after connecting the client to PXE, but this did not work - the server just continued to make images and they never appeared in the console.

    Have you Installed HF2?

Reboot to task issue is Fixed in HF1 but we still recommend to install HF2 as there are many issues solved that where there for vanilla 7.5

After installing HF2 and the reboot to task still does not work (same thing is in use for prepare image capture, and then reboot).

Then open SQL management Studio and implement the SP attached in the KB you mentioned
