Preventing Smurf Attack

Dear All,
My company network in last week have a problem with Smurf Attack. I want to know, can SEP blocking this attack without problem with network. Because if the firewall turn ON, all share connection, such printer and folder  will got big problem.
Please help me. Thank you.

I am having a little trouble understanding exactly what you are asking, but I think this article will help. It describes DOS attacks and how they work. If you can understand how they work then you will understand how to protect yourself against them. Look at the SMURF attack part specfically.

The steps you need to take to protect yourself from SMURF attacks can be done more through your operating system rather than your Anti-Virus software. Again that information can be taken from the article above.

That's mean can SEP blocking

That's mean can SEP blocking ping flood, because i have a client with latest visus definition, and policy for intrution prefention enable. but the network detect the user ip doing ping flood.
Can virus causing ping flood?
