Problem with B2D backups on NAS : only one job at a time ??? Normal or bug ?

Hello,

I successfully launched backups with Symantec Backup Exec on a NAS

But I had plenty of failed backups, until I understood what happened :
When a new backup job starts (on the same NAS), the previous one (as well as the new one I think) fails !

Is this normal ? If yes why ? If not, what should I do to make it work ?

Thanks a lot for any help...

Denis

When you look your device's

When you look your device's properties from BE, select properties from the Backup-to-Disk folder, what is the setting for simultaneous backups? If there's only one (1) allowed, you can run only one backup at time.

However, be aware that for best performance and successful backups, you shouldn't run more backups at the time than you have spindling disks on your B2D device.

For example, you have 2 physical disks on your NAS device. You could run 2 backups same time, if you have 3 physical disks, you could run 3 backups same time and so on.

Number of simultaneous backups

In fact by default there was only 1, but I changed to 5, is it because of that that it fails ?
Now I changed back to 1, let's hope it will work better...

On our NAS we have 4 disks as RAID 5, does it means only 1 backup at the same time is the best ?
Anyway the bottleneck seems to be at network, anyway, therefore more than 1 backup is certainly not useful...

But do you know why in my config the backup fails ?

No, it's not because of you

No, it's not because of you changed that setting to 5. Now you changed it backup to 1, now you shouldn't be able to run more than 1 at the time.

Your NAS have 4 physical disks, so you should be able to run 4 backups at same time, if other parts (network, memory, cpu) are working well and have enough resources.

Cannot say why your backups fail now, are they normal file backups or something else? Can you run more than one backup same time from BE server itself?

:-)

Ok, I will then let it on 1. But why can't I change it to 5, is it maybe the way that I configured this peripheral in Backup Exec ?

And yes I can run another backup on the same time if I backup to another peripheral...

Hello Magix

just wanted to know .....r all the jobs backing up to the same folder or different folders on the NAS box....if running to the same folder would suggest you to create folders for different jobs and than try, as said donnot run different jobs to the same folder same time

Yes all jobs in one folder

Yes all jobs run in one folder, is this wrong ? I will try with many folders (tomorrow because I now have a big job in progress ;-)
