Problem with BackupExec 12.5 appending on tape using a D2D2T policy
Hello!
Im having a problem with BackupExec 12.5 appending on tape using a D2D2T policy.
All hotfixes and patcher are applied. Current verion is: 12.5 2213
Tapebackup:
I have a 28 slot robotic library, with one LTO3 drive attached to it.
"Partition 0000-0002" (3 tapes)
"Partition 0003-0003" (1 tape)
"Partition 0004-0028" (24 tapes)
Diskbackup:
"Backup-To-Disk #1" (5 concurrent jobs)
"Backup-To-Disk #2" (2 concurrent jobs)
"Mediaset Full - Offsite" (1 week OPP)
"Mediaset Diff - Offsite" (1 week OPP)
"Mediaset Full - Onsite" (4 week (OPP)
"Mediaset Diff - Onsite" (1 week OPP)
"Mediaset Disk #1" (1 days OPP)
"Mediaset Disk #2" (1 days OPP)
Overwrite Policy is set to "Partitial" (with no prompting).
Overwrite recyclable media first.
Backup-policy is made as following:
------------
Every friday 5 servers backs to "Backup-To-Disk #1" using "Mediaset Disk #1" starting @ 17.00 (4 hours window)
Every friday 1 server backs to "Backup-to-disk #2" using "Mediaset Disk #2" starting @ 16.00 (8 hours window)
After fullbackup a duplicate job starts -> "Partition 0000-0002" using "Mediaset Full - Offsite"
After fullbackup a duplicate job starts -> "Partition 0004-0028" using "Mediaset Full - Onsite"
(There are two duplicate jobs running after each other)
------------
Mon to Thu 5 servers backs to "Backup-To-Disk #1" using "Mediaset Disk #1" starting @ 23.00 (1 hour window)
Mon to Thu 1 server backs to "Backup-to-disk #2" using "Mediaset Disk #2" starting @ 23.00 (1 hour window)
After differential backup a duplicate job starts -> "Partition 0003-0003" using "Mediaset Full - Insite"
After differential backup a duplicate job starts -> "Partition 0003-0003" using "Mediaset Full - Offsite"
(There are two duplicate jobs running after each other)
------------
Now the problems:
Most times ill get the following:
After each backup to disk is done, it starts to duplicate the jobs to tape.
But the thing is that after the first duplicate job is done, BackupExec "queue's" and asks to insert overwritable media. Still there is only a few GB written to the tapes. It doesnt matter what job i start first... after first job is duplicated, it stops. Ive tried to change to "Overwrite scratch media first", it doesnt help. I dont understand why it aint appending to the tapes already started.
And sometimes ill get:
Job ended: den 13 oktober 2009 at 00:21:10
Completed status: Failed
Final error: 0xe00084f4 - An unknown error has occurred.
Final error category: System Errors
For additional information regarding this error refer to link V-79-57344-34036
But the link doesnt say anything of value.
------------
Is there anyone who has a clue whats going on?
Regards
/Peter

You have told us what your
You have told us what your Overwrite settings in your media sets are but not what your append settings are
Also are all your duplicate templates set to append but then overwrite if no appendable media is available.
Also as one of your partitions only contains 3 tapes - are you actually filling all 3 tapes?
One other thing you need to be aware of but that probably is not part of your issue is that if your overwrite protect a tape for 1 week, but intend to use the same tape for a job that starts one week after the start time of the job that first wrote to the tape then you won't be able to use the tape - because the overwrite period is linked to the end of the job not the start

Ah sorry. Yes, append settings are "Infinite" on both disk and tape.
Yes again about: append but then overwrite if no appendable media is available

No, only two tapes are filled of the 3 in slots 0000-0002, i choose to have 3 tapes to be safe.

Yes, i know that, i choosed to have one week OPP on "Mediaset Full - Offsite" (1 week OPP), since the tapes are stored offsite for several weeks.

Edit: Just have to say that
Edit: Just have to say that all backups are going 100% successful to disk. Its the duplicate who has problems.
Your differential duplicate
Your differential duplicate jobs appear go to the parttion with only 1 slot and use 2 different media sets - this will result in it asking for an overwriteble tape - as per your post saying:
After differential backup a duplicate job starts -> "Partition 0003-0003" using "Mediaset Full - Insite"
After differential backup a duplicate job starts -> "Partition 0003-0003" using "Mediaset Full - Offsite"

I was a bit fast when i wrote
I was a bit fast when i wrote that, hehe
Its just a typo tho. This is the right one.
After differential backup a duplicate job starts -> "Partition 0004-0028" using "Mediaset Full - Insite"
After differential backup a duplicate job starts -> "Partition 0003-0003" using "Mediaset Full - Offsite"
