    Posted Dec 10, 2009 04:00 AM
    Hello,

I cant block USB Storage Devices by using an application policy. I excatly followed those steps: http://service1.symantec.com/support/ent-security.nsf/854fa02b4f5013678825731a007d06af/c82b628fd8e93b6688257561007870ce?OpenDocument
In addition to that i tried to block USB-Ports in general by using the existing rule in the application policy, but this also doesnt works.

have you created additional hardware id, seems like its not recognizing your usb.
make sure you have installed proactive threat protection and network threat protection. on the box
reboot and try the block again.

How to block USB Thumb Drives and USB Hard Drives, but allow specific USB Drives in the Application and Device Control Policy in Symantec Endpoint Protection.

After applying the policy assure that this policy is reaching the client .This you can verify by the policy sl. no
In SEPM go to clients tab select the group which you applied the policy select the details tab. Here you will be able to see the policy sl. no for that group
match this with the policy sl no. in the client both should be same
In client Open GUI go to help and support-----> troubleshooting here you will be able to see the policy sl. no

    Hello,

To take affect of the Policy, you woudl require Network Threat Protection with Application and Device Control installed  on all the machines...

and ofcourse a Restart is required of all this machines... check the same  and let us know...

Application and device control policy is a subcomponent of proactive threat protection. You should install this feature in all pcs to use application and device control
ref:MSI command line reference for Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0

this feature will not work with 64 bit operating systems
