Problem installing Adobe Premiere Elements 8 in a layer
Vista 32-bit, SWV Admin 6.1.4108
When trying to install Adobe Premiere Elements 8 in a layer, I get the following error message from the installer: "Error 1935. An error occurred during the installation of assembly component {CE3230AC-E72E-3EDF-8A57-87FCE1CF2629}. HRESULT: 0x800736B3."
I don't want to test whether or not this is a problem specific to SWV by installing APE8 on my base system because of the junk it is likely to leave behind.
Anybody here successfully install APE8 in a layer, or does anybody know if APE8 cannot be installed in a layer?
Google
I had a google on HRESULT: 0x800736B3
I don't think this is due to APE8 specifically, as this appears to be a common error, and a common solution appears to be to delete: "%userprofile%\Local Settings\Apps".
How about setting up a virtual machine with SWV as then you can both test in a layer and also test in the base, then roll back to the previous configuration in seconds, without having to worry about your main machine.

I don't hit this error
I don't hit this error capturing Adobe Premiere Elements 8 so it's got to be something with your set up RedBug.

EdT, thanks for the error
EdT, thanks for the error suggestion. I tried it but it didn't work. And thanks for the virtual machine suggestion. I intend to try that. Jordan, thanks for verifying the program would install.
The problem I had trying to install APE8 was apparently due to the fact I was using Global Capture. When I tried Single Program Capture, I did not get the Error 1935. Install progressed to the end where unfortunately I got a box saying a reboot would be necessary to complete the installation. When I clicked "No" to decline the reboot, SWV capture ended, but I did not get the usual box asking if I wanted to install another program in that layer.
If I had known APE8 installation required a reboot, I would not have wasted time trying to install it in SWV. I wish software makers would give their customers a complete preview of what to expect during installation, including the options that will be presented and the results of choosing or declining those options. It irritates me sometimes to find the complete installation instructions in a program's Help section, which is only visible after the program is installed. Complete installation instructions should be made available before the program is installed.
Since I am an individual, non-business user, I am not concerned with exporting layers to other machines. I've read that Global Capture is not recommended for general use since it captures "garbage" that might cause a problem when the layer is exported to another machine. But I tend to use Global Capture, especially when capturing large, complex programs, thinking this method would be more likely to capture everything as compared to Single Program capture. I see now that I am probably mistaken.
Error
The error you are reporting is because you have a newer Windows installer.
Downgrade your windows installer to version 3.1 and the problem is fixed.

Thanks erikw, but the
Thanks erikw, but the solution you propose sounds drastic. As I said, APE8 installation did not result in that error when I used Single Program capture. It seems to me that if the combination of SWV's Global Capture method with the version of Win Installer I have with Vista caused the error, and since using the Single Program capture method solved the problem, that would be a simpler solution than downgrading my Win Installer version.
I might also add that even though using SWV meant that I could not reboot to complete the installation, the program still ran apparently OK.
