I installed Symantec Drive Encryption in September 2014 on a Windows 7 computer (Dell Precision M6500) - see the attached certificate. Now I am configuring a new computer with Windows 8.1, but I cannot get the software to work on this computer. (Computer: Dell Precision M6800 64 bit, Windows 8.1.)

I have now downloaded two ZIP files:
    - Symantec Drive Encryption Standalone (without Management Server) 10.3, and
    - Symantec Encryption Desktop, Powered by PGP Technology 10.3.

The downloaded zip archives seemed to contain the same files, so I only installed the first one.

I downloaded the version MP12 - but I can now see that the original installation on my old computer was version MP2, which is no longer available at your website. Is that a problem?

The strange thing is that the software installs without asking for the licence key, but installs directly. After installation and reboot, the software asks for my passphrase - but before I even have time to enter the full passphrase, the window closes and the program shuts down with an error message that says “PGP Tray stopped working”.

I understand I have done something wrong with the installation, but I don’t really understand how, so I need your help.

(Before downloading the complete installation program I tried to install the software by using the installation files from the other computer, and that may be the reason why the installation program now does not ask for the licence. I have uninstalled that installation, but the phenomenon still persists, and I have not found where the remains of that installation are hiding.)

I hope you can give me directions to solve this problem!

    TOO MUCH FUSS IN VAIN...

Even if I was not asked for the licence key during the installation process, when I opened the program I was met with a window where the licence key should be enetered. And when I had entered the key, the program worked exactly as it should.

    Please disregard my long ranting!
