  • 1.  Problem integrating RIS and Ghost

    Hi,

I am trying to use RIS and Ghost together to pull down desktop images.
So far I have Ghost 8 on my RIS server and I've created a ghost boot
image using Ghost Boot Wizard (selecting Microsoft RIS Boot Option).
This integrated with RIS without any problems and when I do a PXE
network book on a desktop I see the ghost option in CIW and everyhting is alright if I use Ghostcast Server.

But...I want to use standalone mode for my ghost sessions . I know that to
use standalone mode I need to map a drive using net use before I launch
the ghost executable but I'm really not sure how to go about doing
this. There doesn't seem to be an option to do this in the Ghost Boot
Wizard so how and where would I configure this?
    Thx

    Hi Mazz,

Unfortunately you cannot use RIS in conjunction with "Drive mapping boot package" from Ghost Boot Wizard, hence you cannot access your images from the client.
What you can do is to run multiple multicast sessions on the server (each having a different name) and select the images you want to use from the server, not from the client. Once you enter the session name on the client, it will automatically connect to the respective session on the server, using the image you selected on the server. If you want to use the same image, select File -> Options in your multicast session on the server and check "Restart Operation" checkbox. This way, when the current clone is finished, a new one will start automatically.
Also, have a look at the following thread:

    Hope this helps,

    Hi,
I have the same problem, I can run ghost from RIS, but can't map a network drive at all...Surely there's got to be a way to amend the boot disk so it can run the net use command?

    Hi Hales,

RIS doesn't allow you to copy files, but you need to use Windows APIs to add them to the image. Currently we don't have that functionality in Ghost Boot Wizard.
Is there any particular reason why you want to use mapped network drive instead of having multicast session running with the restart option?
