I've just recently installed SEP 11.0 and I'm getting two problems.  The first problem is that when I run a scan I get the message "Please wait while Windows configures Symantec Endpoint Protection".  Then I get another message box appear stating "Windows installer stopped working and was closed.   A problem caused the application to stop working correctly.  Windows will notify you if a solution is available"  and I get another message box appearing that asks me if I want to send more information about the problem.  It seems to continue to configure and eventually I get a separate window showing that the scan is complete.  During all of this LiveUpdate pops up, at times it seems to cancel itself out then restart and continue to look for updates or just freezes up when I hit Cancel.  After the scan and LiveUpdate is complete, I get a message on the status page of Symantec showing 2 warnings for Network Threat Protection:
"Firewall Protection is not functioning correctly.  Your protection definitions may be damaged or your prodcut installation may be corrupt."
Click Fix to update protection definitions for Firewall Protection."

I click fix but it doesn't seem to fix the problem.  When I initially opened up SEP it says the definitions for Network Threat Protection were up-to-date as of July 30, 2009.  My operating system is Vista 64-bit.  I just updated to SEP from SAV 10.2.  Any suggestions?

    Hello Vampyrum.
I install sep client vista 64 bit before successfully. I think so your installer was corrupt. can you uninstall it with cleanwipe and install again.
But by the way proactive Threath Protection does not support 64 bit systems.
    (application and device policy either)

You might want to check the event viewer for Applications Logs.

This could be a corrupt install as Faith Teke said, and the best way we confirm it is either using the event viewer or the install log which could be found at

    %temp%\sep_inst.log

    Thanks :-)

    Thanks for the responses.

Faith Teke, can you provide me with a copy of Clean Wipe?  So, if some components of SEP 11 do not support 64-bit is it worth it to update from SAV 10.2?  I had SAV 10.2 before and it was working great, just ran into problems when I uninstalled it and installed SEP 11.

Kedar Mohile, I went to the Event Viewer for Application Logs, but didn't see anything mentioning "Symantec" or SEP 11.  What exactly should I look for?

    Thanks

For Cleanwipe you need to get in touch with support..There is no need to go back to 10.2 as SEP is far better than that..Your issue needs a bit troubleshooting tht's it..Un-install SEP Delete all symantec related folders.Reboot...re-insatll SEP 11 64bit install package..and make sure you are using the latest version of SEP that is 11.0.4202.xx

    Vikram,

I understand the process to get cleanwipe, its just that I don't have the ID's needed to do so, still waiting to hear from the IT dept but they don't seem very responsive.  I've been reading about the use of cleanwipe and it does seem tricky.  Do you have any suggested instructions for using it?

     Suggestions would be common ones.
Use the latest version of Cleanwipe which is I guess 4.2
Close all application before running it because it will reboot your system once or twice sometimes wihout asking your permission.
Do not run Cleanwipe on Critical Servers.

Always Run cleanwipe as last resort like If ADD/Remove Progrms fails.

Well...Once you get the Cleanwipe it will be a zip file and there will be a Readme.txt inside it..
