This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hello,
we had SEPM 11.0.780 version. w've recently upgraded it to the MR4 version.
I create a group ,add a client to it  to test the auto-upgrade as said by symantec article. ( creating the install package, disabling notification, executing liveupdate ...).
BUt, the client didn't upgrade to the recent version and the DOWNLOAD  folder is not created in the client.
from the client, the url : http://@ipaddressofSEPM   works but the the greendot doesn't appear. so the communication between the client and the server is lost .
i should notice that before upgrading the SEPM serevr , w've redirected the content folder to a new drive. After the upgrade, the content folder return back to its default location.
thanks

Fresh Install

If you ever had SEP 11.0.780 in your environment just wipe it off and start fresh.
Upgrade will still not  resolve many issues.
11.0.780 was a disaster till date more than 1000+ bugs have been fixed since then.
Start fresh you will have a totally new product.

fresh install mean lots of

fresh install mean lots of work because we have 300 machine in our LAN. that means installing one by one.
symantec said that auto-upgrade will work from SEP 11.0.780 to MR4

Hmm...

Well since youhave upgraded the SEPM to mr4 and all your clients are still at RTM version ( 11.0.780 ) I don't think autoupgrade would work in this case.
But what i can suggest is think as a fresh install.
Export a Client install package with the setting of "Remove previous logs and settings and reset- Client-Server communication"
and push out this package either via Migration or deployment or find unmanaged computers and all your clients should be fine.
We used this back then and it used to work great.
Once all your clients are at MR4 without any leftovers of RTM then MR4Mp2 and future releases should be a cake.

As far as Content folder is concerned from MR3 onwards that issue was fixed so now you need not worry about then content folder at the max it will reach 1 gb.
That too it is configurable ( no. of content revisions to keep)
Admin - Servers- Local Site ( My Site ) - Properties -liveupdate -Disk Space Management for downloads

Here is one

Creating custom Client Installation packages in the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager Console

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security....

If you want you can export the polcies if you have made many otherwise re-create them in new manager.
Just document the client groups and which clients were where.

Un-install SEPM 11.0.780 and Install the new SEPM ( directly mr4mp2)
Export the client install package and start deploying them..

Do you have any replication set up or anythinglike that? If yes then I would suggest to need to break the replication just upgrade both the managers to mr4mp2 export a client install setting with "remove previous log......." and start deploying.

i'm sorry to be so late . i lose the internet connection.
so you suggest a new installation and new client deployemnet.
you said : Export the client install package and start deploying them
have i to uninstall the oldest SEP client from each computer and then deploy one by one ?
is there a way to automate this process ?
thanks

no need to un-install

Once you deploy a pckage to a client having a older version of sep it will upgrade the product and apply the new settings.
Once you have created a packge there are manys ways of deploying them
Use can use Find Unamanged computers
Migration and deployment wizard
GPO Deployment ( for that you will have to select non single exe )
Or any 3rd party deployment product like SMS, Tivoli..

Upgrade to MR4

I did an upgrade from MR3 to MR4 of about 150 clients. Most of them are fine however about 30 don't seem to be taking the upgrade. Is there a way to auto-upgrade a single client as opposed to a group? I can see exactly which ones have not upgraded yet but I cannot create a special group for those if there is an easier way! Please Help!
