I have to install new version of ESM (CCS11) on several Windows 2008 R2 machines.

I have strictly followed the instructions provided and old ESM is removed.

Windows uninstall:

∙       first try to use Add/Remove programs

∙       stop Enterprise Security Agent service in services.msc

∙       delete folders C:\Program Files\Symantec\ESM or C:\ESM  (path depends on installation)

∙       Also check if previous version removed following registry key: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Symantec\ESM, if not manually remove it.

Last option how to uninstall ESM agent found here:

Server is rebooted.

Before and after the reboot I get this message and installation fails:

Unable to read old version installation directory

Unfortunately I cannot find any relevant information in Internet (still searching).

Can you please advise some approach towards this situation?

Hello I had the same issue and the workaround I used for it, was to install the old version, which you tried to manually uninstall (ESM 10) and then cleanly uninstall it/upgrade to CCS 11.

It happened to me 2 years ago:

The situation was, the old agent was not well uninstalled.

Then, it missed the old .msi to uninstall.
After copying it again (the old .msi file), and uninstalling old ESM agent correctly, we were able to install the Sym CCS agent.

No need to touch to the registry.
