Problem in writing data into new LTO-3 tape - Final error: 0xe0008115 - Physical Volume Library Drive or Robot paused, offline, or disabled.
Hi All,
I'm having problem in writing my backup data into external SCSI LTO-3 tape drive with new tape media inserted.
the tape was successfully registered under the ServerName - Stand-alone Drives - HP1 but when i right click on that tape drive all of the options greyed out ?
therefore I could not find a way to format the tape from BE 12.5
Final error: 0xe0008115 - Physical Volume Library Drive or Robot paused, offline, or disabled.
Final error category: Backup Device Errors
Completed status: Failed
that was the error message when i initiate the backup job, any idea and suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
thanks.

You can try the usual options
You can try the usual options to fix it:
1. Make sure that the Symantec drivers are loaded for your device. if not, run them using the Device Configuration Wizard under Tools.
2. Check and see that Removable Storage isn't running. if it is, disable it.
3. Check WIndows Device Manager to ensure that your device is shown there. If not, run a device rescan to pick it up.
4. Check Backup Exec to see that the device is listed there. if not, restart the BE services and check under Devices again.
5. Upgrade your drive's firmware using HP Library & Tape Tools - this sometimes addresses issues with hardware.
6. Run HP LTT to make sure there are no hardware errors on your drive.
If you find this is a solution, please mark it as such.
Several Reasons
there are several reasons for this problem
1. Where you have connected your tape library SCSI controler or RAID controller.
If you have connected your library to the RAID controller, then it is not supported. Check below mentioned TN for the same
Why is it recommended that tape devices should not be connected to RAID controllers?
2. Have you installed latest drivers??
I'd suggest that you update your drivers for tape library.
let us know if this helps or even doesn't help

Error in re-adding tape drive
it seems that the LTO-3 tape drive having problem with yellow warning asterisk in my device manager
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.
and then this is what I've done after rmoving the standalone drive from BE12.5 SP2 console
Removing the IDR CD-ROM burner driver (drvmcdb.sys) association for tape drives.
Updating Symantec inf file
Removing SCSI\SequentialHP______Ultrium_3-SCSI__D22D
Installing Symantec "halfinch.sys" for "SCSI\SequentialHP______Ultrium_3-SCSI__D22D"
Driver load failure 0x800F020B for SCSI\SequentialHP______Ultrium_3-SCSI__D22D
The device instance does not exist in the hardware tree.
Installation is not complete.
very strange ?
i wonder if there is a driver files that must be installed first.

Try getting hold of the
Try getting hold of the HP drivers and install them. Although this shouldn't make any difference, it's worth a try. Load them, and then download the latest Veritas drivers too, and install them straight after that.

Ghost Devices
@Albert
Check the below on your server-
1. Just verify if there are any ghost / hidden devices in device manager.
you will need to enable the hidden devices from View --> Show Hidden Devices
2. Uninstall all the devices listed under tape drives
3. If possible reboot the server and then install the tape drive with proper hardware
hope this helps...

HI,
You can change SCSI ID so.
Update scsi driver Card.
If on windows device manger you can't see drive, BE don't see it too.
Hi
LTO-3 Tape detected but stuck in "In Use" mode.
Now the tape is detected inside the BE 12.5 SP2, but it always in "In use" mode, i can't even eject or erase the tape with new media ?
see the following screenshot:
Finding tape devices
Finding plug and play tape device names
Finding IDE plug and play device instances
Finding SCSI plug and play device instances
Hardware ID = SCSI\SequentialHP______Ultrium_3-SCSI__D22D
Finding Symantec device drivers
Hardware scan complete.
Removing the IDR CD-ROM burner driver (drvmcdb.sys) association for tape drives.
Updating Symantec inf file
Symantec device drivers are already installed
[-1,0,3,0] halfinch.sys SCSI\SequentialHP______Ultrium_3-SCSI__D22D
Installation complete.
but still the Drive got asterisk icon in the Device manager.

OK, my suggestion would be as
OK, my suggestion would be as follows:
1. In BE, delete the device, and then run the wizard to delete the drivers from BE as well. When it asks you to restart, choose no.
2. In Windows Device Manager, delete the drive.
3. Shut down Windows, and turn off your drive before unplugging it.
4. With the drive unplugged, Start the server, and let it boot into the OS. Once done, shut it down again. This will allow it to boot up, and recognise there is no backup device attached.
5. Reattach the drive, turn it on, and then turn on the server.
6. Once the server has booted, rerun the Backup Exec drivers wizard, and then verify that the drivers are installed in Device Manager --> Tape Drive --> Drivers.

Hm... I think it is the LTO-3 tape drive problem most likely.

Hi Albert, Did you remove the
Hi Albert,
Did you remove the device as per my post? If so, have you then tried to pause the server in BEWS, and then unpause it?
Is Removable Storage service disabled and stopped?
If yes to the above, then you need to download HP Library and Tape Tools from the HP site, and run some diagnostic tests to see if it is the device. If it is, log the call with HP.
If you find this is a solution, please mark it as such.
ok, let me try that and will
