Problems After Upgrade
Created: 15 Feb 2013 | Updated: 18 Apr 2013 | 21 comments
This issue has been solved. See solution.
We just upgraded from 6.5.3.4 to 7.5.0.4, we have 1 master server, with three media servers, all HP-UX. We have 3 HP EML tape libraries. We will be getting appliances and utilizing dedupe soon, but for now we are running straight to tape. Ever since we upgraded we have been having strange issues with phantom jobs in activity monitor and jobs just sitting there queued up or running, but they aren't really doing anything and have to be cancelled out. We have also had a lot of issues with our libraries (tape drive issues, controller interface issues, etc) and we're wondering if Netbackup is falsely reporting them as issues. Has anyone here experienced any similar post-upgrade problems?

For the devices, please run through : https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/2...
For the stuck jobs please review and apply : http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH43177
Please show us examples of these phantom jobs?
Screen shots of Overview and Details tab will be helpful.
None of our customer on 7.5.0.4 have reported such issues.
NBU does not interact directly with devices - it relies on the OS for device access.
NBU is merely reporting errors that are passed via the OS.
Supporting Storage Foundation and VCS on Unix and Windows as well as NetBackup on Unix and Windows
Handy NBU Links
Here are some screenshots with the client names cleared out. Thanks in advance!
Still having issues. Any ideas?
Did you remove the jobs per the link above?

will restore -- where there is a Will there is a way
Oh yeah I removed them before I posted. The problem is not removing them, but the fact that NB has to be stopped and the fact that the problem is even occurring in the first place. It's happening on a daily basis and we have way too many jobs to be bouncing NB all the time.
I have had some phantom jobs, but I didnt have to restart NB to get rid, sounds like a different problem.
Mine were duplicated jobs ie the same number repeated: one had proper info in, the other was just blank.
And eventually they went away.
It seemed to be associated with the gui we were using: try an alternative if you can.
The devices issue I would plough through first to see if the 2 are related but doesnt sound like they are.

What is an alternative GUI to use?
Java gui (either directly from windows or indirectly from the master over X) or admin console.

Strange, your job on the screenshot seems finished (0) but is still in an unknown state. This is really close to the problem I have with my 7.5.0.5 upgrade.
Can you please check on the console, under the "report/problems" is you see some critical evens "socket open failed" affecting your master server ?

Yes!!! Several errors saying "socket open failed" and "cannot determine connection host name". What does that mean? Is it a bug with the upgrade to 7.5.0.4?
This is really strange and I can ony advise you to open a ticket. I never had this issue on 7.5.0.4 only after the upgrade to 7.5.0.5.

This is still happening and the guy up there says it started happening on him in 7.5.0.5 so I'm hesitant to upgrade. Has anyone else run into this issue?
