Problems with GUP

I created a GUP for one group of computers and have no idea if it's working:

1) SEPM doesn't show the GUP's GUP status as true, and it shows the particular computer as offline.

2) The GUP monitoring tool for 12.1 doesn't work -- I dutifully changed the apache settings, rebooted the server, then double-clicked the *.bat file and nothing happens.

What can I do to fix the above??

Thank you, Tom

Hi Tom,    If the computer

Hi Tom,

If the computer that should be a GUP has been offline since before you changed the Liveupdate policy, it would not have received the new policy and therefore not started acting as a GUP yet.

Do you have the green dot on the client side? What is the client's last check in time?

Just to be sure you may want to drop a fresh sylink.xml on to it.

Let us know

now it has the green dot -- I had to go and restart it -- I don't know what happened to it...

I sent it an 'update content' command, I'll see what happens.

It's in another building so I can't update its policy -- this particular GUP-supposed-to-be does not show any policy number in the 'clients' tab...

I guess I must go back to it again later today...

Had to shut down the SEPM server for a while, it causes too much noise that interferes with people in one of our subnets.

Thank you, Tom

Hi Tom, Once you successfully

Hi Tom,

Once you successfully manage to get this computer to become a GUP, there is a fairly simple way to confirm that other client machines are using that machine as a GUP.

On a machine which should be using the GUP, follow these steps:

  1. Open SEP 12.1
  2. Click View Logs
  3. Click View Logs next to Client Management
  4. Click System Log
  5. Look for the system logs for entries which tell you that the client updated content from the GUP. The GUP will be specified in the list by hostname or IP. (I can't remember which off the top of my head.)

Let us know us know if you have any further questions on this topic.

Regards,

James

Hi Tom,Please confirm.1.

Hi Tom,

Please confirm.

1. Policy defines that client as a GUP or not .

2. The client has received the latest policy gup policy .

3. Check the presense of the folder sharedupdates inside the SEP folder.

(C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection)

4. Gup Client able to telnet port no 2967 port

and check this artical.

Hi

Some Question

How many clients system you have created as a GUP?

What is the exact location of GUP?

Have you tried to telnet with port 2967?

Your gup system is update with latest defintion or not?

Regard

Sumit G.

GUP server offline to Management server

I have come across very different network scenario where i need to create a gup server which cannot communicate with management server but stil need to receive updates from primary server , this network has connectivity through VPN contacting easily to primary server but cannot to SEPM , but still i need to make it to act as gup server to local clients which also cannot contact the management server

Can we make any registry changes into symantec which it can receive updates from primary server but being offline to SEPM and also act as GUP !

Can anyone give idea ?
