    Hi Everybody,

I have experienced this exact same problem a number of years ago with HPCM 6.n, at another client's site, but unfortunately don't recall if I ever got a resolution to it:

Problem description: HP SoftPaq Import gets stuck...
I have populated the Filestore in a vanilla installation of HPCM and hit the "Import..." button and the progress bar has been stuck at "0%" ever since:

I have restarted the Altiris server several times since it got stuck with no change.

    About my vanilla install:
    Windows Server 2003 Standard x86 R2 SP2
Server has plenty of CPU and RAM
HP Client Manager 7.0.1024 with SP1 applied.

If anybody could shed some light on how to get this thing unstuck I would be grateful.

    Regards,

Well I've managed to find an e-mail trail from almost exactly three years ago, from a support case with Altiris APAC support, that appears to have not been resolved/gone cold.

As this problems is EXACTLY the same problem I had three years ago I find it hard to believe that nobody else on this forum has ever experienced this issue. But, alas the lack of response from anybody isn't too reassuring.

If John-Leonard is still out there or anybody knows him enough to give him a prod (if he still works for Symantec (Altiris)) that would be good. I really don't want to have to reopen yet another case for a problem in the product that still apears to be an unresolved problem.

Even if somebody from Symantec has access to the old Altiris support system to see if this case was ever resolved (I have not record of this, unfortunately), perhaps they could e-mail me with the case resolution.

I've retried all of the suggestions mentioned below, and no joy still...

Last e-mail from the original suport case e-mail trail follows...

Subject: Altiris Support Item #131843 - HPCMS/NS FTP issues...

    Hello David,

JLJ or JL is fine, actually it is the norm. Try saying the full version quickly 5 times in a row, now that's even worse than typing it over and over!

Thank-you for your time in putting together the ethereal trace and the query results.

Before referring the trace back to Robert Davis from the HPCMS team I just need to get some feedback on the following actions as these were outlined by Robert previously.

    (1) HPCM 6.1 SP1 has now been released, via solutioncentre in your NS console would it be possible to upgrade to the latest build of HPCM(6.1.1119) as Robert previously suggested that although the communication is not fully addressed, certain 'tweeks' were made in the SP related to the communications issue. I would be interested to see in your environment if there are improvements here.

    (2) In relation to the progress bar getting stuck, the following further suggestions were provided by Robert. Please let me know whether they are of assistance:

    (i) Make sure ssm.exe and ssmmain.exe are not running on the server (see taskmanager)
(ii) Either delete or move (move them up and out of the file path, not down into a subdirectory) all softpaqs and files from the filestore path.
(iii) Place a known ssm compatable softpaq into the root of the filestore
(iv) Click update filestore (this should create the filestore appropriately)
    (v) Place other softpaqs into the root or subdirectories of the filestore and click update

David, the above steps have apparently helped resolve the progress bar issue in the past. If not successful I will provide your query results to Robert so that he can examine and provide instructions to clear any locks seen. I believe the above steps must be adhered to first though.

    Thanks again David,

    John-Leonard James

To do this I emptied all the SoftPaqs I'd downloaded into the Filestore. Hit the "Download SoftPaqs..." button on the "Download HP Health Scan SoftPaqs" page. Sat and watched the SoftPaqs download to the Filestore then dropped the rest of the SoftPaqs I'd moved out back into the Filestore. This appears to have reenabled the "Import..." button on the "HP SoftPaq Import" page. Hit the "Import..." button and away she went creating the CVA files etc. I now have all my SoftPaqs available for distribution in HPCM. Hope this helps anybody that may be having similar problems.

I was able to download the Softpaqs detected as required by a Health Scan (though it took a few days before the downloads worked and one of them is still generating an error 500) but they're not appearing in the SoftPaq wizard even though I can see they've been added to the SSM database. I tried re-importing the files but still they don't show. I remove all the CVA files and re-import and still they don't show.

The release notes for HPCM 7.0 has this issue documented:

Importing of HP HealthScan SoftPaqs halts at 100%
Description: When you import the HP HealthScan Softpaqs, the progress bar for the download hangs at 100%. In addition, the list of available SoftPaqs available for download is not updated to reflect that any of the SoftPaqs have been downloaded.
Workaround: Bring up the Task Manager and end the SSMMain.exe and SSM.exe processes. Once those processes are stopped, the Import HP HealthScan SoftPaqs process will work.

    Thanks,
    ACM
