Problems installing the Symantec Management Agent with a domain name ending with .NS.

We are using the following agent executable and switches.

    aexnsc.exe /install -a /ns=SMPName.Domain.ns /nsweb="http://SMPName.Domain.ns:850/altiris" NOTRAYICON NOSTARTMENU /s

When the agent installs it installs without any reference to the Symantec Management Platform. It acts like we installed the agent about the /ns and /nsweb switches. We did not have this problem with our previous domain name which ended with .ORG.

We are currently using ITMS 7.1 SP1 MP1.1 Rollup 5.

    The SMA version is 7.1.15440.8440

If we use aexagentutil.exe after installing the agent the agent then has the information needed for the SMP.

As anyone seen this problem before and does anyone know how to fix the aexnsc.exe?

    Thanks
    Derik

    Hi,

when SMA unable to establish connection to SMP Server, using specified /nsweb, then it rejects it.

Please, make sure that client computer has no connection problems with NS server, using FQDN of NS Server.

At least check that I.E on client computer successfully opens NS https://SMPName.Domain.ns:850/altiris

Also check SMA logs in C:\ProgramData\Symantec\

    • C:\ProgramData\Symantec\Symantec Agent\

    Note:

    • I see that you're trying to specify NS server FQDN as http. Is it really http and is not https?

    Thanks,

    IP.

    Hi DerekDavis

It looks like this is a known issue. It happens when both the port number is specified and also a domain name is used that ends in '.ns'

This combination results in the NSweb parameter ending up blank in the client machine's cached copy of 'targeted agent settings.'

    It is fixed in 7.5.

There were issues regarding .ns and .local domain names once SMA installed via command line with additional parameters, both issues were fixed in 7.5SP1+
