  • 1.  Problems restoring image from DVD using a DVD+-RW drive

    Posted Sep 25, 2006 10:23 AM
I have 5 Dell Latitude D600 laptops running XP SP2 and use Ghost 8.0. Until recently, I had the laptop images on bootable CDs using CDROM drives. To make things easier, we put the images on bootable DVDs and are using CDRW/DVDRW drives (NEC DVD+-RW ND-6650A).

When the restore is 25% complete, we get a decompression error. This occurs on every laptop. We have made new images and bootable DVDs, but still have the same problem. However, if we use a CDRW/DVDRom (HL-DT-ST CDRW/DVD GCC4244), the restore works fine.

I've updated the laptops to the latest BIOS. I noticed that the CDRW/DVDRW was not in the tested list. Does anyone have any ideas on what we can do?

    Hi Sarah,

Usually, decompression error indicates a read error from the CD/DVD drive. Some of these drives could be sensitive to the media type (DVD+R and DVD-R), by any chance did you try changing the media type?
