We are having major problems with the RTVscan (as well as the SMC.exe and CCapp.exe). Each of these services are often hitting very high Page Faults. I have read here and elsewhere that page faults is not normally a sign of a problem unless it is in a short period. Well that is our case. This occurs on several servers (particularly SQL Server and Terminal Servers). Within a 24 hour period (note: we are not a 24/7 operation), we are seeing page faults in excess of 300,000,000 for RTVscan.exe (some times SMC and CCAPP). This IMO and from what I have read is extremely too high for a short period of time. Note the next process is our Backup software which is at 20,000,000 and that particular process has been running for 4 days now.
Some thing is IMO in ERROR with the Symantec software. SEP SBE 12 (latest version and up-date-to).
As far as Page faults not equalling performance issues. Seems daily I get a call about system slowness. Each time I log in that server (again generally SQL or a TS), see the page faults are excessive and end the process (most often RTVScan). System performance restored. No Manual or scheduled scan is in process at the time; however, I previously posted a problem with policy driven scans starting during business hours. I do not believe that is the problem as even after the scan is complete, the PFs continue to be excessive within just hours of the last time the process was restarted.
No other service or process runs even close to the PFs as Symantec. System Utilization is normal. No excessive memory or CPU utilization other than Symantec during a given day or time period. The servers are all Dell PowerEdge 28xx with 4GB of RAM (TS's are 16GB)
Any ideas?
