Problems with System State backup

Created: 08 Oct 2013 | 1 comment

Backing up SBS2011 through an agent, BE2012 has latest SP + hotfixes. 3 out of 5 (daily) backups randomly fail with this error:

Final error: 0xe00084f9 - A communications failure has occurred between the Backup Exec job engine and the Agent for Windows.
Final error category: Resource Errors

Backup- \\ZEN-MAIL\System?StateV-79-57344-33928 - Unable to complete the operation.  The Active Directory, Active Directory Application Mode (ADAM) or Active Directory Lightweight Directory Services (AD LDS) database was not found.

I have no clue why this is happening, the backup can be successful for days and then suddenly it gives this error. Nothing changed on the server. And without doing anything, it backups successfully again. Very strange indeed.

Help is appreciated.

Confirm if the BESA and the Account used for this backup have the permissions mentioned in the technote below -

Looks like you are performing a GRT backup of the Active directory. Could you turn off the GRT feature and perform a backup of System State and see if that works.
