Hi there,

first of all, i would like to mention that this is my first time here in this forum, so i hope i'm at the right place. :)

Well, my problem is with the Proactive threat protection module, it just won't download the updates from the SEP server.

I deployed yesterday via GPO the sep clients (mr4 release), on my XP SP2 workstations at work, and it appears that 1 station (total deploy was 16 PC'S) could not get the definition from the server.

When i opened the console i saw the message that the proactive threat protection is waiting for definitions from the server, so i right click the client and clicked on the client policy and waited for a few minutes, but nothing change.

I logged the user off, and logged in with Admin rights, and again, right click the client, pressed on the "update policy", and nothing happends.
Finally i restarted the services, and restarted the computer, but unfortunatlly, still the same problem.

here is the screen shot from the computer:

Now, as you can see the mssage, i can't press FIX, because it's missing in this specific console.

Well, i hope you can help me solve this issue.

Best regards,
Nahum
Israel.

Re

Please try to repair the installation on the Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel. Is this happening on all clients?

Could be a corrupt install

I understand that this issue occurs only on one machine out of 16, I would suggest you to:

Uninstall SEP > Reinstall SEP

If does not help,

Run Cleanwipe > Reinstall SEP

Thanks :)

Prolinat threat protection notifications delayed...

Hi again,

First of all, i would like to thank all the people that replayed my question.

now i would like to answer the questions you asked me:

1) On which operation system i'm facing the problem?
answer: (as i mentioned in my first post, the operating system is Windows xp service pack 2.

2)What is the SEP version?
Answer: It's MR4 Final release (build 2295).

So far, i have try to do uninstall ONLY the PTP module from add/remove programs, but that didn't solve the problem.

Now i removed the SEP from the client pc, restarted and installed it again from a share location.
after the installation was finish and all the updates was installed, i used the SYLINKDROP.EXE to add the unmanaged PC to the server.

Hope it will do the trick.(i will keep you all posted).

Best regards,
Nahum
Israel.

I had the same exact

I had the same exact problem with the latest build of SEP.
You can check the logs to see if it lists PTP errors (can't remember which logs exactly)

See this article:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security.nsf/docid/2008013109171848
(wasn't really my solution)

I had to manually run liveupdate as admin (start > run > luall) on the machine to fix this issue.

Re

Hi, Nahum, can you reinstall all and post SEP_INST.LOG here? When you clean reinstall, is PTP disabled?
