Protocols Altiris Client Management suite is using
Updated: 22 May 2010 | 4 comments
Hello,
What kind of protocols* does Altiris Client Management Suite uses? Thus far I have collected these:
1)HTTP for Altiris management Console
2)AMT
3)ASF
4)Some RPC interfaces
But I would not wonder if there are even more. Any help and hints will appreciated.
I need to know this because I am implementing a network traffic classification module for this Application, but I guess that other people who are willing to configure their Firewalls would also benefit from this information.
Regards,
Ansis
*I am interested in Application Layer protocols

HTTP is also used between the
HTTP is also used between the clients and servers, too. Additionally, Netbios/SMB can be used to copy files from package servers to the clients when performing software distribution. Perhaps you had that included in the RPC category.

As Mitch Said
Most traffic goes over HTTP or HTTPS (if you configure that). However most of the rest are documented here: Altiris KB23205 (pdf download). The one exception is probably PC Anywhere.

This one doc is probably out
This one doc is probably out of date, because it even did not have AMT and ASF mentioned.
Anyway I just discovered also some traffic betwen Altiris CMS and Altiris Agent on TCP port 50124. More info could be found here: http://www.experts-exchange.com/Security/Software_..., but this is CMS 6.8 instead of CMS 7.0.
The date isn't that important
AMT\ASF are not in that document (and aren't widely used by everyone). The rest of the solutions didn't change their ports and protocols.
I did specifially mention that I left off PC Anywhere, and the 50124 is Task Server.
The ports for everything can be found (there are several documents) on either https://kb.altiris.com or http://www.altiris.com/Support/Documentation.aspx, there are just too many to list individually here.
Either of those have got to be better than Experts Exchange, since 6.8 isn't even a console version (unless you're talking about the 32bit Deployment Server), and Experts Exchange (which I happen to have a membership at) is a paid site, so not everyone can access the answer to that question.
If you have a specific product question, feel free to post it here.
