  • 1.  Pruning of SEP clients

    Posted Aug 30, 2011 05:46 AM

    Hi,

We reinstall our servers from time to time (OS + software), and then we get multiple instances of the same object in SEPM (we don't sync with AD).

What is best practise for removing obsolete objects, without doing this manually?

    Regards,

    Dagfinn Sommerseth

you have to delete  the entry from SEPM console before you format, that is the best way to do it.

OK, but I don't always know in advance when a client is reinstalled. Do you know of any script that can delete the oldest object when ther's more than one instance of the same client name?

in that case open SEPM console --> admin ---> servers ---> edit site properties and reduce the number of days for "Delete Clients that have not connected for X days"

What happens when a client reconnects after having been deleted? Will they reappear in SEPM?

yes, when the clients connects it will be shown in SEPM console. Since its the same machine with different hardware ID, one with old Hardware ID will be deleted and the new one will reflect in SEPM console. If the new client is not communicated with SEPM for X days it will be deleted from SEPM console, however when it reconnectes ( after X+ y days), it will be reflected in SEPM console.

the default one set in SEPM is 30 days

    admin-servers-local site-properties, u can change it  if u want

if clients come back after being deleted, they will get added in the SEPM.
