  • 1.  Publishing Policies in the Software Portal

    Posted Mar 08, 2011 04:19 PM

One of our software deployments involves more than just deploying the package—we are also running some scripts to go along with it to remove the previous version. For this reason, it's not effective to simply publish the resource to the portal. Instead, I have created a policy with the intention of publishing it to the software portal. However, it does not seem to be a straightforward thing to do if the policy is not actually active.

Is it possible to publish a policy with multiple tasks to the portal without turning it on? The only reason I created a policy in the first place was to allow the multiple tasks (4 in all) to be run. I did not intend for the policy to be applied to any computers. I want the rights to be covered by user permissions, not computer.

Does anyone have any ideas? Am I missing anything or is the only way around this to make the policy available but not scheduled?

I don't believe there is a way to publish a Managed Software Delivery policy to the software portal without having it "enabled" with a valid resource target.  I'll have someone from the Software Management team confirm this.

    Hi,

In ITMS 7.0 you had to enable Managed Software Delivery policy and add some target to it (it is possible to add some "fake" target) before the policy could be published,

In ITMS 7.1 you still need to enable the Managed Software Delivery policy you want to publish, but you don't need to enter any target (if the policy is published to SW portal).

    Thanks,

    Andrew.
