  • 1.  Push Deployment Wizard schedule?

    Posted Apr 17, 2013 08:55 AM

I have a number of off site locations that I need to upload the exceutable and use the Push deployment wizard to install so it's a local install to the offsite and I'm not trying to push out the software over a slow network.

I'm missing something though, how can I set the installs to happen between 5 PM and 5 AM? Right now it only gives me the chance to do it ASAP with nowhere I can see to set a time for the client to be pushed out. I'm sure I'm just missing it.

    Thank you for any help.

On the Install Packages tab when you add the install package, just tick the Upgrade Schedule box. You should than be able to set the time. This is the only place I know of.

There is no ability to set a time for the Push Deploy Wizard

I'm missing where that tab is. I choose Deploy self installing exe. I browse for the setup.exe file, click next, xelect the computer I want to install it to and click next and it tries to push it out. Thank you for the help.

The tab I'm referring to is for the Auto Upgrade. This is different from what you're doing. You're using the deployment wizard which will push the install immediately, there is no option to set a time.

For the Auto Upgrade, you need to follow this KB article, which shows you how to set the Upgrade schedule:

How to upgrade Symantec Endpoint Protection clients by using Auto-Upgrade

But since you posted in the SEP SBE forum, I assume you're using SBE? I'm not sure if this option is available in SBE though. You can check the article to see if you have this option.

Thanks again. With the auto upgrade can you make it push out an install from a remote server to remote clients?> Or if I pick the .exe file will it copy it to my server from the remote location then try to upload it to the machines in the remote location instead of having it go from the remote site? I just need a way to do installs to a remote location using a file stored at the remote location so it doesn't bring down our network.

    Thank you.

Unfortunately you cannot select the source location of the upgrade package while using the Autoupgrade option from SEPM - the package will be taken always from the install packages stored on SEPM.

I just need a way to do installs to a remote location using a file stored at the remote location so it doesn't bring down our network.

    - to achieve that you can use the "Save Package" option from client deployment wizard - that will create a package on the SEPM which  can be the copied by you to some network share at clients location and executed at any given time.

No, with auto upgrade it would only come from the SEPM.

I would suggest using the remote push deplyoment tool. With this you can create a single exe and copy it to a local machine at the remote site. Than you can push the install from there, which should not affect your bandwidth.
