  • 1.  Push package from SEPM to repoint to client to a new server

    Posted Jul 12, 2012 10:44 AM

I currently have a SEP 11 environment.  I just built a SEP 12.1 environment.  Is there a way to push a package out from the old SEP 11 environment to the clients that points them to the new SEP 12.1 environment and installs SEP 12.1?

You would need to push clients from the new 12.1 server to the clients to get them to point to the new server.

Or you can replace the sylink file on the client to point to the new server. You can do this using the sylink drop tool.

And if pushing the package, do remember to add custom install settings using these steps -

    1. In the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager Console, click the Admin icon.
    2. Click the Install Packages option.
    3. Under View Install Packages, click Client Install Settings.
    4. Under Tasks, click Add Client Install Settings.
    5. Enter a name for this setting In the Name field.
    6. Under Client Installation Settings, select the preferred settings.
    7. Under Upgrade settings, select Remove all previous logs and policies, and reset the client-server communication settings and then click OK.

    Solution:

    • Create a new package on SEPM 12.1. So the package will have the information of the New SEPM 12.1
    • Move the client install package to old SEPM 11.x server desktop or anywhere.
    • Run the Migration and deployment wizard on old SEPM 11.x follow the on screen instruction
    • While it ask for use existing package point this SEP 12.1 client install package that have been created.
    • Follow on screen instructions and select the computers and deploy them.
    • It will successfully install the SEP12.1 and after a reboot on the client end.
    • Automatically the client will upgraded to SEP 12.1 and it reports to the new SEPM 12.1

    Note:

    • You need to run this wizard separately to deploy on 32bit clients using  SEP12.1 32 bit client install package
    • You need to run this wizard separately to deploy on 64bit clients using  SEP12.1 64 bit client install package

    HOPE THIS HELPS...........

Yes, but you need to add separately for 32 and 64 bit clients. for autoupgrade.

Note: Autoupgrade packages only upgrade the clients which is reporting to the SEPM.

    Hope this helps...

You can auto upgrade 32 bit to 64 bit

You can assign a 32-bit and 64-bit package to the same group when you do an auto-upgrade and both clients will automatically upgrade. You don't have to create separate groups for 32-bit and 64-bit clients.

Upgrade clients to SEP 12.1 by Auto upgrade feature

    http://www.symantec.com/connect/articles/upgrade-clients-sep-121-auto-upgrade-feature

Note : You must test the AutoUpgrade process before you attempt to upgrade a large number of clients in your production network. If you do not have a test network, you can create a test group. You can add a few non-critical clients to the test group and upgrade them by using AutoUpgrade. You can confirm the upgrade completed successfully by verifying the version number of the client software that appears in the About dialog box.

It's always recommended to have Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager and SEP clients on the same version.
