PXE boot - change master PXE server

ssilvest's picture

HI All,

We currently have a master PXE server, and I have remotely installed several other PXE servers from this one. All the other PXE servers are taking the 'shared configuration'.
I would like to change the master PXE server to be another server. Is this possible?

We have DS 6.9 SP1 installed.

Cheers,

Scott

Re: PXE boot - change master PXE server

There is not concept of master PXE server.  There are two components to PXE. PXE Manager who keeps track of all PXE images and PXE server is the one that services images.
So, you could stop the PXE helper service for PXE server to stop responding at that level. All other PXE servers will still talk to PXE Manager for PXE images updates.

Thanks for your reply Nelo. I

Thanks for your reply Nelo.

I stopped the services from the 'master' PXE server, and all other PXE servers worked fine, which is great.
However, I would still like to keep track of all our PXE servers, and push out updated WIMs (when drivers update, etc), from one 'master' server. Do I need to stop the PXE Manager service from the 'master' PXE server, and start it on the new one? The remotely installed PXE servers don't seem to have a PXE Manager service. Would there be any PXE.ini changes to make too?

Thanks in advance.
