  • 1.  PXE boot menu options

    Posted Jan 12, 2011 05:35 AM

    We are using DS7.1 with 2 PXE servers and I have created 2 new PXE boot configurations:

    WinPE x86 (automation type = PXE, architecture = x86)

    WinPE x64 (automation type = PXE, architecture = x64)

    I have removed the default boot configurations in the console (default = "LinuxPE" & "WinPE") and currently only the 2 newly created configurations are listed on the Preboot Configuration policy.

    However, when I check the current SBS files on the PXE server (for example: 160613023-image.sbs) all options are listed including the default ones. The PXE boot menu also lists ALL options.

    Is there any way to update this info? It's been like this for weeks. Restarting the SBS services does not remove the default boot options...

    This is the content of the 160613023-image.sbs file. Only "WinPE x64" & "WinPE x86" exist in the console:

    Status=UpdateImage

    Arch=x86
    OptID=99
    Image=BStrap
    Arch=x64

    Here is what I would do to troubleshootthis issue.

    1. Stop the SBS Services. All of them.

    2. Delete all the file under sbs\sbsstore yes, all *.sbs (they are just receipts).

    3. Start all the SBS services.

    4. see what makes it to the sbs\sbsstore You should have 3 files. One is initialization, list of images and a list of clients.

    Open up the list of images.  Does it show the correct number of images u should have? the bootstrap ones are required.

    Post your findings.

    Does the PXE configuration page show correct number of PXE images?

    Deleting all files and restarting the SBS services does not fix it. Already tried that multiple times.

    The Altiris Agent\Agents\Deployment\Task Handler\SBS\Images folder and the PXE configuration page contains only my 2 PXE configurations:

    WinPE x64 (ID=62214)

    WinPE x86 (ID=48894)

    This is a part of the log file. Somehow it finds the default boot options (8 in total) even if there are only 2 boot options in de sbs images folder:

    Try the following:

    1. Stop the SBS services.

    2. In the SBS folder \\localhost\deployment\task handler\sbs there is a file called SBSDelta.exd highlight it and delete it.

    3. Delete del SBSStore folder (it will get recreated when the sbsnsInterface.exe service starts).

    4.  Start all SBS services. The SBSStore should contain 3 SBS messages, check the one that says images. THere should only be 4 images listed right?

    5. PXE boot a client press F8 and see what the menu shows.  if the menu is different then u might have a rogue PXE server :)

    cheers

    Deleted the sbsdelta.exd file, cleared the sbstore folder and started the sbs services (with the xml task posted on the knowledgede base): All 8 options are still displayed on the boot menu and the images.sbs file.

    We only have 2 DS7.1 PXE servers installed. The test has been done ony a seperate vlan that only can contact one of those servers.

    Grts,

    that is very odd.  The last thing to check is the database itselft

    table Inv_PXE_Image_List should return the list of images that you have.  does it match to what you should have?

    The table contains all menu's including the defaults :-)

    Is it save to remove the incorrect records?

    I deleted the records and the correct menu is displayed.

    Thanks! :-)

    Glad that it worked for you.  I tried to repro your issue and was not able.
