I have NS with DS 7.1 SP2 MR1 installed and when when my clients boot to PXE the boot menu options for automation are missing and only next device is listed. I have recreated both the Win PE and Linux boot environments and the files are all installed in the SBS directory, so I can see no reason why they should not be coming up.

the only thing I have noticed is that when I call up the PXE server configuration page two PXE servers are listed, both with the same IP address, which is the NS/DS server IP address. But one has the correct server name the other has no server name. I suspect there may be a link but what and how do I get my boot options back and PXE working again.... Or for DS 7.1 how do I uninstall and reinstall PXE?

Try the procedure in this KB to Recreate the Preboot environments:

The problem/cause may not apply -- just wanted to demonstrate the proper procedure to rebuilding preboot. Please also run this SQL query and upload the results:

SELECT * FROM inv_pxe_image_list

It would seem that when I recently upgraded the DS environemnt the Boot environment build choices were reset to the default which is Automation folder only. I should have looked at this earlier...

Once I had asked it to build all the types of Boot environment the problem was solve.

incidentally quite how the random PXE server got into the database is not clear, but as the Guid was not in the item table deleting the record from the sbs_pxe_Server table seemed to fix it and hasn;t affected anything... I think!

Am now trying to stop w3wp.exe from killing my demo system environment!

Where you successful in booting the client to PXE.

Make sure PXE services are running and than you try recreating PXE image again and verify they are created at path  <drive>:\Program Files\Altiris\Altiris Agent\Agents\Deployment\Task Handler\SBS\Images.
