PXE Boot not functioning correctly

    Hi,

We are using the latest 6.9 Deployment Console package with Altiris and have a question.  We are running this server as a stand-alone VMWare machine and originally had two NIC cards installed on it.  One was to access the 192.168.x.x network and the other 10.1.x.x network.  We want to get rid of the 10 network and stick with 192.  However, the PXE boot portion wants to keep using the 10 network to speak to other machines.  Is there anyway to tell the PXE boot option to use the 192 network card and ignore the card attached to the 10 network?  I have already configured the PXE boot files to the new address but it is still wanting to use the 10 network card.  Any advice would be useful.  Thank you for your time in reading/replying to this.

Have you checked the PXE Configuration Utility?  When you are in there, it may open by default to "Shared Configuration".  You'll want to do a File -> Choose Server and make sure the server name is selected.  I would check the PXE Server tab and make sure the PXE Server IP Address matches the NIC IP address that you want to continue using.

That seemed to help thank you.  However, now when I reboot a machine its now at this screen:

Altiris, inc. X86PC Preboot, PXE2.x Enhanced

    Build ID=402

Below here it will keep filling with dots until it times out.

Is there anything else I'm missing from this?  Again I appreciate any replies to this matter.

You may want to regenerate your PXE boot images via the PXE Configuration Utility.

I regenerated like you said on my altiris PXE config but it still produces the same result.  Any other suggestions would be helpful. Thank you.

I have re-installed the PXE service/manager as my next step and it is still giving me the same error.  Is there something I am missing when trying to recreate the boot menu options? Any help is appreciated.  Thanks.

You might create another boot option and see if you can boot off that option (i.e. if you are using WinPE, trying creating a WinPE #2).  This is just in case the PXE boot images are tied to that subnet/IP range.

I created a WinPE #2 and tried to restart the test PC I have here in my office and it still does the same thing.  Let me know if there is anything else to suggest.

I'm sorry, but I don't any other suggestions other than to uninstall PXE, re-install it and start anew with the PXE boot images.  Not sure if anyone else has any ideas.  I also flagged this thread for Symantec support to look over to see if they would respond.

Thats ok.  I will try the PXE uninstall/reinstall one more time.  Thank you for the suggestions!

Solved it.  In DHCP we had the Vendor Specific info checked which I think caused it to look for something that was not there no more (probably the old NIC card)  I had already reinstalled the PXE server and then started up the test machine in my office and it picked it right up after that was done.  Thanks again for all the advice.
