After upgrading from 3.0 to 3.1 the PXE manager is failing to work properly.

When I go to the PXE Configuration utility I see the "PXE Manager Service has not connected with the GSS Server yet" .

I find no stopped services that would account for this.

    Any ideas?

What MP do you have installed for 3.1. A PXE problem was fixed in GSS 3.1 MP1

Take a look at this TECH Article:

I just had this exact same problem.  This is how I was able to resolve it.  Hopefully it will work for you also!

    1. Stop all 6 Altiris Services
    2. Make a copy of both the MMAccessKey.ini & PXEManager.ini
    3. Delete HKLM\SOFTWARE\Altiris\Altiris eXpress\Options\Security
    4. Run DSKeyGen.exe
    5. Verify that the key is correct in the registry.  It is the following;
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Altiris\Altiris eXpress\Options\Security
    6. Start Altiris DB Management and Altiris eXpress Server service (and the other non pxe altiris service)
    7. Run PxeKeyMatch.exe -sync parameter
    8. Copy the key in the MMAccessKey.ini file into the MMAccessKey line in the  PXEManager.ini. Close and save the files.
    6. Start all the services Start the PXE Manager Service before the PXE Config Helper service
    7. Test the PXE Config Utility and see if it's functional

    Thanks!

Good afternoon miholmes, I am very fortunate to have run accross your solution and looks easy enough to do, given if I could find one of the executables you meantioned...

I am running Ghost Solution Suite 3.1, and installed ALL features that came with the software installer. I have been encountering the same issue, but as I was going through your fix process, I found myself getting hung up on step 4.... There is no such thing as DSKeyGen.exe on the entire server that I have GSS 3.1 installed on. So my question is did you have to manually find this and install it separately? If so, where do I find it? If it is supposed to be apart of GSS 3.1 full install, do you know why I am not seeing it in any of the install directories?? I've even run a full search on every single hard drive from the root down and this executable is nowhere to be found.

Also, I managed to find the values you mentioned as being located in HKLM\SOFTWARE\Altiris\Altiris eXpress\Options\Security, but it was actually located somewhere else in my registry. On my server it is located in: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Altiris\Altiris eXpress\Options\Security...... Not sure if this is important or not, but I figured I should meantion it since my location is different, and I don't have this keygen executable for some reason.

I am not having an issue locating PxeKeyMatch.exe, it is only the DSKeyGen.exe that I am somehow missing... Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I am running this on windows server 2012 R2 standard edition.

    Thank you.
