PXE Problems

johnniej's picture

I have created a remote PXE server to one of our remote locations on a different subnet. The problem that I am having is that when one of our admins does a PXE boot while trying to deploy an image, the job cannot acquire an IP address from the DHCP server. The DHCP server is on a different server than the PXE server (but on the same subnet) and I only have one DS which is in another location. I was told that the ports are all open so that the PXE server can communicate with the DS.

I was going to then install the PXE server on the DHCP server and see if that works.

This may sound like a stupd question but how do I un-install the existing PXE server?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

RE: PXE Problems

Add/Remove programs.  Remove PXE server. Then you will be prompted to reboot your server. Do so and delete all PXE images after the reboot.
In the issue you had was a there a firewall in between?

PXE Problems

We have a proxy server at each of the locations but I was told that we are not blocking anything that would cause the pxe server to not find the DS.

Thanks for your help.

PXE Problems

Also, I must not have installed the PXE server correctly because I do not see the PXE installation in the Add/Remove programs. Maybe that is why it is not working properly.

I do see that particular server as a pxe server in the PXE Configuration on the Deployment Server.

Thanks.

PXE helper address?

We had to put a PXE helper address on our switches to make it work correctly.  Even though all the ports are open, I think it inherently blocks the broadcast.

PXE Problems

Thanks royhanies

Can you be more specific on what this is and how I can go about taking care of this.

Also, could someone give some insight on installing a PXE server at a remote location. I cannot see the PXE server in the Add/Remove programs of the server so I am wondering if I installed the server correctly.

Thanks.
