PXE questions
Okay so here is what will probably be a really dumb question. I have setup our main PXE server with all three boot enviroment, Linux, Dos and WinPE. We are using D# 6.9 with the latest service pack. What I am looking to do is this: Say we have a machine that was out in production. The machine, for whatever reason, was pulled from production We want to reimage it, but do not want to have to either open up the console and drop the computer into a job, or delete it from the console so it can pick up the automated install of our corporate image. What we would like, and we had it setup before, is for our DOS boot image to just take us to a command prompt after it has checked in with the deployment server. Right now what happens is if no job is found when it checks into the Deployment server, it just reboots and goes on its merry way. I would just look it up from the old server that is was setup on, but oh wait someone decided it would be a good idea to reprovision that server. Any help is much appreciated.
No Problem
In your PXE Configuration Utility, open the File menu and click "Choose PXE Server". Select the PXE server you want to add a Network Boot Disk to (you can't create Network Boot Disks in the Shared Configuration).
Now you can create some new PXE boot oprions ("WinPE Network", "Linux Network", and "DOS Network" or whatever you choose to call them. Go through the creation like normal, except at the end it will ask you if you want to make a Automation Boot or Network Boot, choose Network Boot.
I am not looking at my PXE Config right now, so my terminology might not be exact, but you should see what I am talking about. The trick is to choose a specific server configuration, not the shared one.
