  • 1.  PXE Server - Specifications for build DS6.9 SP4

Hi all just wondering what the recommended specifications for a pxe server are. I currently have a vm Server 2003 R2 SP2 with 512mb of RAM and 1TB hard drive. This used to be okay when we were using DOS boot images but we have now moved to Winpe boot images. I'm finding if I deploy to more than 5 computers at the pxe server site I am getting lots of computer failing in the download of the the winpe boot image - the boot image will start to download then just goes to a black screen with ther error boot device not ready and I need to manually reboot to start again the download again

I had to replace the altiris PXE server with openTFTP to even get the machines to pxe boot in the first place on both the Main Deployment server and the PXE server.

The other issue is when I have more than a few master images downloading I get the error TFTP file not found just when pxe booting a computer normally for it to boot into windows.

The PXE server is regularly hitting 100 CPU usage when I am either winpe booting or imaging. The main deployment server is not affected performance wise.

    Thanks Cat

According to DS6.9 user guide, requirements are quite low (128mb RAM). Also from my experience i don't believe this is actually causing the problem you are experiencing.

From the description and without having all the information or logs I would suspect network itself at this point.

What is the exact TFTP error message when this happens?
