  • 1.  Question about the delivery and installation of a package over the local admin account

    Posted Apr 28, 2009 01:58 PM
    Altiris Deployment Server

    Hello,

at the point where you choose under which account the package/software should be installed (standard is system account/context) you can enter in the field domain the name of the pc and in the other fields for username and passsword you can enter the login datas of the local admin of the pc. So, the package/software will be installed successfully with/over the local admin account.

My question is if it's possible to enter a variable like %computername% in the field of the domain so that it's possible to install the package/software on many pcs without entering ever single computername into the field domain?

I hope someone can answer my question.

    Thanks a lot beforehand.

When specifying a local account you shouldn't need to put the computer name. Just use the username and password.

The "problem" is the field "User domain", because you have to enter something. Otherwise you can't save/take the settings in Altiris if you leave this field empty.

By the way entering localhost or %computername% don't work unfortunately.

That doesn't look like DS. Are you sure you aren't talking about NS?

I think you are trying to create a Software Delivery Task for delivering your package.

This is the wrong forum but i will try to help anyway. I would select "System Account" as it has admin rights to the machine. in your screen shot if you really want want to install under the actual administrator account i would try LocalHost in that field. you need a common admin name and password on all your machines though.

At first, sorry for my late reply, but i was on vacation.

And yes, i try to create a Software Delivery Task for delivering a package.

I have try to fill in the field "User domain" with the value "localhost", but i will test "LocalHost" tomorrow.

The problem is that it's required to run the installation/delivering of the package under the local admin account. Under the system account the installation/delivery didn't work.

the local workstation account, such as %COMPNAME% is not supported doesn't work. So, a domain account with admin rights or local system is about your only option.

Be sure that check box is checked, even if there won't be any on-screen interaction.  There is more to that checkbox than just displaying a dialog or message box.  How are you running the package command line?  I haven't run into an issue yet with using Local System unless you have a script or something that has to write to HKEY_CURRENT_USER Or something.
