Question about Ghost and Product keys

  • 1.  Question about Ghost and Product keys

    Posted Jan 22, 2009 04:31 PM

The images we have built are all useing an OEM windows product key. All the machines we buy have OEM product key. We do not use or have any volume licensing product keys. How can I have ghost ask for a product key at install time, hopefully with out using sys prep but if i have to thats fine.

Also are there any good tools that change the product key for me. I have tried have tried changing this through windows activation (http://pcsupport.about.com/od/productkeysactivation/ht/changexpkey.htm)  and Microsofts product key update tool (http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/selfhelp/XPPkuinst.aspx?displaylang=en&sGuid=9b747267-1b3f-4a47-8efc-72d5f5f17cb7)  but it does not work. It gives me an error the prduct key is invalid. I have verifed that i have the correct product key typed in. Have contacted microsoft and all they said was to do was perform a clean install. Anyone have any ideas or thoughts.

How do other customers handle windows licensing with OEM product keys?:smileyindifferent:

We have very very few programs that use OEM keys.

My partner is a AutoIt guru, what we do is he makes a AutoIt program that looks for the key in a text file on our install server then installs the program, then I use ghost console to kick it off remotly.

As far as Windows OEM? Sysprep is the only thing I can think of, but again I never had to worry about it.
