  • 1.  Question about importing a PKI usb token into the Symantec Encryption Server

    Posted Sep 05, 2014 08:08 AM

    Hello,

I am currently evaluating the Symantec Encryption Server to encrypt certain emails going outside the organization. My question is the following, apart from loading internal/external user certificates using standard formats(.cer or something else), can I somehow import a PKI usb certificate into the appliance?

    Thank you.

What is the make and model of the token?

At this moment I don't think that there is only one vendor supplying the tokens.

What is the purpose of importing such a thing into the appliance?  What are you wishing the certificate to be used for?

At this moment there are users sending encrypted emails outside the enterprise(some of them are using these usb tokens for other purposes also, besides email). We would like to encrypt emails using a centralised approach, while not disturbing the other user activities.

Would you be able to provide the public portion of one of the PKI certificates for me to test?  I would be willing to devote some time to testing it for you.  We can import other types of certificates either in Symantec Encryption Desktop or on the server, so I could probably run it against my lab fairly quickly and give you a rough idea of whether it works, and how to set it up.  If you PM me, we can work out the details.

If you are wanting to import the certificate into the server for emailing to an external person, the model of USB should't really be a factor.  The type of certificate will be the issue.
