This issue has been solved. See solution.

Morning all, I have a simple question. I'm going to upgrade our IM Manager servers from version 8.2.1186 to the newer version which is 8.4.1328. I've downloaded the trial version of the software and got a trial license. I went through the upgrade process in a lab environment and it seemed to be pretty simple. My question is for those that have gone through this upgrade process. I'm still trying to locate our original license file so I'm wondering if I need to worry about having that file just in case. Also, we have two servers running the services and I was wondering if both can run on slightly different builds for some time. Thank you all for takingg the time to read this and respond.

You can probably find the

You can probably find the license file at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Licenses - if there is more than one, open them up in a text editor. They are XML so it shouldn't take long to figure out which one is the right one. However, I think I recall not needing it for the upgrade anyway.

If both servers are using the same IM Manager database you need to upgrade both at the same time or you may have trouble. Settings are stored in the db and with the upgrade, there may be changes to those settings or to the db schema that will cause issues on the un-upgraded machine. If the two installations don't share a database, then you are fine upgrading them in a staggered fashion (since they share nothing).

great, thanks for the reply

great, thanks for the reply and the information.  Both server use the same database, so it looks like I will have to do both at the same time.  Thanks once again.
