Question around EV Cluster

Hi All

I have a customer that wants to implement SharePoint archiving but they want to install it in a Windows 2008 Cluster.

The customer has 2 Data centers connected by Dark Fibre, 40 GB speed

Now I am not an expert on Clustering and the customer wants to separate the nodes(active and passive) between the 2 data centers. In the past all the EV clusters I have worked have been configured where the nodes are in the same data center

Would this scenario  work for EV where effectively the nodes are separated by a high speed WAN? The customer says that all there clusters are configured like this but for me I am worried the bandwidth between the 2 data centers may create an issue?

Thanks

EV on MSCS cluster can be configure regardless what the target type.  OR we can say EV does not have any limitation to archive certain type of target in case of clustered server, setting up EV cluster for sharepoint archive would be as same as it needs to be for exchange / file server archiving.

A well documented information present in following link which I new yesterday itself.
https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/setting-highly-available-enterprise-vault-structure-windows-failover-cluster

Now if EV servers are separted by WAN network, then setting up EV building blocks would be good idea in my opinion.

How to setup building blocks and configure Enterprise Vault for fail-over

Hi Counselor

The customer wants automated fail-over so Building Blocks wouldnt be applicable here

My question is really can you configure EV on a Windows Cluster over a high speed WAN where the nodes are in different data centers?

Also thanks for that excellent article link, very useful :)

Hey Bruce,

IMO it shouldn't be a big bother for a DR solution to hop across that much pipe. If it's a concern, you could look at EV nearsync which would ensure availability of the data inside the DR site.

Cheers,

Hi Bruce,

Would EV Near Sync be an option?

That has excellent build in replication/dr functionality
