  • 1.  Question on re-deploying software

    Posted Oct 19, 2010 11:47 AM

Using NS 6 to deploy a simple msi using standard msi commands and had a couple of failed installs.  On a second try it installs fine when launched manually from the Altiris Agent. Would like to launch the install again on these PCs without going into the Agent (hands off).  Have tried removing PCs from collection, updating config, adding them back in but status still shows as "fail" and install log file is only showing it ran once.  Is there a way to launch the install command on PCs which failed the first time around?

    Thanks!

    Hi,

I opted a while back to running software deployment tasks daily on computers which didn't have that piece of software installed.

This is done by creating a collection of computers which don't have software x installed at version y, and then applying the policy to install your package daily on the computers in this collection.

The simplest way to create the target collection is to,

    1. Create a collection of computers with software x installed at version y
    2. Create a target collection which consists of all computers excluding the computers in the collection above

You can get more advanced too.. see http://www.symantec.com/connect/articles/building-better-collections-software-delivery

    Kind Regards,
    Ian./
