Hi All

I am busy with a new FSA installation, 10 sp3. This customer use to use EV years ago and removed it for various reasons. They have now decided to reinvest in EV again for FSA

Anyway during the test phase of FSA I noticed that there are Archive Points that the VAC shows that I didn't create so they were obviously created during the previous EV installation. What is the best way to remove this old Archive Points, should I just use the VAC to do this and the normal method. These old Archive Points would obviously contain an Alternate Data Stream (ADS) that wouldn't be valid as we are doing a clean install of EV with a new Direcotry database

Thanks

You should remove the archive points from the VAC since it will remove the ADS from the file server and will update the EV records in the DBs as well. However, if this is a new EV install, you might need to run the "archivepoints delete" command or just use a third party tool such as streams to remove them.

I hope this helps.

Hi,

If previous EV is not in environment and all Archive Points become orphaned then need to remove / delete such items manually.

Thanks,

Ajay

Hi Guys

Thanks for the response, okay I'll  try the VAC removal method and see if that works

Hi Bruce.

I would definitely use archivepoints find //fileserver/volume$ to check my work.

The utility scans the actual filesystem, looking for the ADSs and will list them all.

A good check is then to run fsautility -a -s //fileserver/volume$ -r which scans the Directory database.

If all is well the two lists should match.

Investigate any discrepancies.
