  • 1.  Question/Issue with Patch 6.2

I took over patch management last year.  When there was a slight issue with a patch in December, I did more investigating of our setup.  I discovered that the pmimport-supplementary was discontinued, and you needed to turn it off and run the main PMImport manually.( TECH121965)

When I did this the process went on for about 6 days. Yikes!  But it finally finished Monday.

Then with the new PMImport released this week, it started all over again.  Its been running 2 full days now, on many patches.  Is this normal, or is something not getting written or is something corrupted?

What does your environment look like? Is SQL on\off box? How much memory is available?

No Errors, SQL Off Box, almost 3 gigs free, Servers currently running 1.30 GBs used.  Performance is fine.  Just curious as to why its downloading all these patches, when it already has them and the pmimport didnt modify them.

Id expect it to fetch the 2 new patches.

I'm sure you've checked this, since you said "pmimport didn't modify them," but if you go to your Microsoft Patch Management Import configuration screen, do you have 'Only download if modified' checked?  And what schedule are you using?  Perhaps you have a very frequent download schedule, and are forcing download of patches even if your downloaded pmimport.cab is the same as the copy on the Altiris host.

It looks like with all things it eventually got what it needed.  It took a few days to work itself out.  Patch is running normal now.  Thanks all

What solved it?  Just stepping back for a few days and letting it shake out?
