Questions about Symantec AV specifically on Media Process Server (ICR).

Created: 19 Mar 2013 | 1 comment

I do have few question help me in these.

Here is the list of my questions about Symantec AV specifically on Media Process Server (ICR). ICR servers translate/encode the media file into any video format user assigns. The entire process is automated.

•       Any previous deployment case on ICR servers. Given my clients servers are running 24x7 none stop with average 90% memory and 60% CPU utilization        on windows platform.

•       How would the AV client behave on heavily used system like such case

•       The input files to ICR servers range from 100MB to 100GB, how does AV client handles the scan and if there is a size limit?

•       Do we have any other alternative to prevent possible attacks Environment Details: Windows/redhat/solaris mix environment.

The question focuses on ICR servers for virus protection. Version of  SEPM: 12.1 (latest version) No of Clients: around 50 OS on SEPM server: windows 2008 OS on clients: windows 2008

Do we have any documentation on this.

Autoprotect would scan the file if accessed or modified. You want think about adding exceptions.

There is no size limit although larger files will take longer to scan. Again, possible exceptios are needed.

You can consider IPS on the server but it may depend on the bandwidth. Check this:

Best Practices for the Intrusion Prevention System component of Symantec Endpoint Protectoin on high-availability/high bandwidth servers.
