Questions concerning byte count and compression??

We are running Backup Exec 10d. Under Devices/Propereties I have the "Enable Compression" switch checked and can't find anywhere else anything related to enabling compression other than the switch mentioned above.

My questions:

1.) Does Backup-to-Disk use compression and if so where do you set it ?

2.) In the Job Monitor Screen, the displayed byte count for completed jobs, is that being displayed as compressed or non-compressed ?

1) If you look in the job properties you'll find in one of the areas (can't remember exactly where from memory) an option to specify the type of compression used, hardware, software or none (and combinations of them). Obviously the hard disk doesn't have hardware compression, so you'll need to make sure it's set to software compression.

2) The byte count listed is the amount of data that has been backed up rather than the physical space used on the tape / drive.

You can set the type of compression by going to the job properties and under "settings -> general -> Type of compression".

You can see the compression ratio under the "devices" or "media" tab by selecting one of the "backup to disk folders" or one of the "media".
