  • 1.  Questions on upgradings clients

    Posted Apr 23, 2015 06:13 AM

    Hello,

I'm upgrading SEP clients from 12.1.4013 to 12.1.5337

One of my Client groups in SEPM has almost 100 clients and I'm worried about grinding the network to a halt by suddenly performing an "upgrade clients with Package" from SEPM. My plan was to create a temp group and move them across in batches to mitigate the problem. I have a few questions:

    • How big is the 12.1.5337 package?
    • If an installation package is assigned to a client group in SEPM, will the clients start downloading it as soon as I move them into that gorup?
    • How can I tell when the clients have finished downloading the software from SEPM?
    • Once the download has finished, can I move them back to their original group, or do I need to wait for the installation & reboot as well?

    Thanks

***How big is the 12.1.5337 package?***

    Approx 80 to 90 MB

***If an installation package is assigned to a client group in SEPM, will the clients start downloading it as soon as I move them into that gorup?***

It's depend what setting you have done.Configure the Upgrade Schedule if desired or leave it unchecked to start the roll-out on the client's next heartbeat

***How can I tell when the clients have finished downloading the software from SEPM?***

Confirm that the upgrade completed successfully

You can confirm that the upgrade completed successfully by verifying the version number of the client software. The version number is displayed in the client's Help > About panel.

The Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager also displays the updated client version number on the Clients page after a successful check-in. You select the group, then the Clients tab, and change the view to Client Status

***Once the download has finished, can I move them back to their original group, or do I need to wait for the installation & reboot as well?***

You can you can wait the installation and reboot the system.

Upgrade Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 clients using AutoUpgrade

Thank you for your reponse Mr Bond.

"You can confirm that the upgrade completed successfully by verifying the version number of the client software. The version number is displayed in the client's Help > About panel."

Yes - but that will only ocur after the installation has taken place and the system has rebooted (which will be overnight in this case - I'm not asking 100 busy users to reboot their PCs). What I want to know is, when have the clients finished downloading the package so I can move the next batch of clients into my temp group to begin their download of the installation package. I suspect there's no way to know this information from SEPM.

The Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager also displays the updated client version number on the Clients page after a successful check-in. You select the group, then the Clients tab, and change the view to Client Status.

If SEP upgrade package download are finished and client showing pending for reboot,You can move your SEP TEMP group to original SEPM group.
