I work for Northrop Grumman. I was just tasked with making a image of a PC running Windows XP Pro SP2. We have Symantec Ghost Solution Suite 1.1.

I have to create a recovery DVD for this machine. The DVD needs to be able to boot up the PC and reload everything so it is at it's present state. I have 6 hours to accomplish this task. In 6 hours the system ships out, thus why they want recovery DVD. I will have to do the same thing to a Windows 2003 R2 server as well in the same time frame. I am behind the 8 ball as I have never used this product before.

Does anyone have a quick step by step on this. I would love to take the time and research this solution so I can learn about the product but I don't have all the extra time to really get my hands wet. I have to get a result before the system is taken down and ships out.

I would appreciate any quick, down and dirty info on this.

Feel free to send a response also to: joe.apato@ngc.com

    Thanks so much!

I am starting to run short on time. I got the boot CD made. I have made the PQI files. Now I need to figure out how to get them into a image that ghost.exe will read.

sorry this answer is a bit late, but you won't be able to get ghost.exe to read pqi files. the cd should have been made with ghost.exe itself.

to do this you would have to use the -GHOSTONCD switch and choose to make the disk bootable when asked (if you don't get asked, or not sure, you can use the -BOOTCD switch)
you would need to provide a bootable floppy to do this.
so basically, you need to run:
    ghost.exe -bootcd -ghostoncd
and then choose the right compression for it to fit on a cd/dvd
