Random clients get disconnected fron mapped network drives
Hi
We are experiencing a problem on some of our clients. Without any notice they get disconnected from the mapped network drives, we notice this because the Offline Files popup is shown in the system tray. When it happens they are still connected to our Exchange server through Outlook 2007, they can use the Internet, Remote Desktop connections still work.
I can see that others have had similar problems but not exactly the same, since they seem to have a problem with a complete loss of network connection. This exact problem is not something that happens on our servers, we have ~40 clients and it happens randomly and not at the same time. To get the connection back they "just" right click on the Offline Files popup and select synchronize.
We are running SEP 11 MR4 on almost all of the clients, the rest should be updated during the next couple of days through the upgrade schedule. When all the users are running MR4 I will upgrade to MR4a.

hey it may not be problem with SEP
hey its a network connectivity problem.
What a wonderful reply.......
What a wonderful reply....... Not to sound angry or anything, but if that's the only comment you have why write it?
This it not a network connectivity problem, the users are connected to 4 different HP ProCurve switches and they have been replaced since the problem first occured. And as I wrote, the users don't loose connection to the network ONLY to the mapped network drives.

you had mentioned about upgrade
Hi,
You mantioned that you had scheduled an upgrade for these computers, let us know if the upgrade has happened and the issue persisted.
Is there a SEP client installed on the file server.? What are the components of SEP clients installed?
Hi Aniket I made a mistake in
Hi Aniket
I made a mistake in the first message, ALL our clients are running SEP 11.0.4000 MR4 and I have scheduled an upgrade to SEP 11.0.4014 MR4 MP1. Nearly all the clients have been upgraded to SEP 11.0.4014 MR4 MP1. One of the clients who had the problem today was running the latest version of SEP.
We use the following features on the client installations:
Antivirus and antispyware Protection
Microsoft Outlook Scanner
Network Threat Protection
TruScan Proactive Threat Scan
We also have SEP clients on our servers with the following features:
Antivirus and antispyware Protection
Network Threat Protection
TruScan Proactive Threat Scan
Would it solve anything to remove the Network Threat Protection and TruScan Proactive from the servers?
Under Centralized Exceptions I have added our mapped network drives.
Under Intrusion Prevention I have tried adding our IP ranges to see it that changed anything.

On Servers, only Antivirus
On Servers, only Antivirus & Antispyware should be installed. After you remove the Network Threat Protection from a server, it requires a reboot.
Hi Aniket It will try to
Hi Aniket
It will try to change the installation on our servers so it only contains the Antivirus & Spyware.
Thanks for your help so fare.

If the server is 2008 64-bit,
If the server is 2008 64-bit, Symantec has a hotfix for this.
Your clients should be at MR4 MP1a. Note the "a". This is a hotfix to prevent network disconnects when running a program via a UNC share.

Hi RayIt's not 2008 64-bit,
Hi Ray
It's not 2008 64-bit, we are using 2003 32-bit.
You mention the MR4 MP1a, when I check the Install Packages through the SEPM console it tells me the version is 11.0.4014.26 MR4 MP1, is that the correct version?
And it's exactly our problem, the accounting software we use don't connect through drive letters but UNC paths.

4014.26 is MP1a
4014.26 is MP1a
Since I last wrote I have
Since I last wrote I have gotten all our client's installed with MR4 MP1a and have changed the installed features on the server's so only the Antivirus & Antispyware is installed.
It seems like the upgrade of the client's have solved the problem so fare, we have been running for about a week now and counting.

Its an Issue with NTP firewall
Your issue would have been fixed now..as told by Aniket It is recommended to have on AV and ASPY component on the server. However you can install NTP as well but you will have to set the polcy explicitly for File and Print sharing in the firewall rules as there is a problem with SEP firewall on servers having more than one NIC however this issue has been fixed in SEP MR4Mp2
Inconsistent behavior with NTP "Microsoft Windows Networking" settings
Fix ID: 1509179
However I dont think you would mind just having Antivirus and Antispyware on the servers just to be on the safe side.
VMWARE-- SEP 12.1 vs McAfee vs Trend Micro
The firewall feature was
The firewall feature was disabled on all the servers and there is only 1 NIC in the server with the disconnect issues. I am quit sure that it's not the server that is causing the disconnect since it happend on random computers and random times.
Some problem
Hi !
I have the same problem - Random clients with SEP11 MR4 get disconnected from mapped network drives to NetApp Server no AV.
Did somebody find a solution for the current problem ?
Info
Hi talex,
This issue was fixed in version 11.0.4202.x, I'd get upgraded to this version and the network connectivity issues will disappear.

What variant of MR4 are you
What variant of MR4 are you on?

The problem with doing this is you lose application and device control. We use NTP on servers to keep people from sticking USB drives and stuff into them. The firewall is disabled but it's there in case we need to activate it in an emergency.
