Rdeploy: Intermittent Read errors on Win7 image

We are using WINPE 2.1 via a PXE boot. Dagent 6.9.430.
Ds 6.9 build 430, sp3

We've never really seen this problem with Windows XP but the image is much smaller.  Our Win7 image weights in at about 7gb.
In various sites we see an Rdeploy READ error in the console at different point in the image download.  Usually it is past the halfway point but not necessarily the exact same point.  It isn't a corrupt image as you can retry a few times and eventually it will make it to 100%.  I suspected network connectivty issues to the SHARE we map to for the image file. So I made a bootable USB with the image on the USB device.  Even here I had a read error. The Deployment server in the USB test was local to the machine being imaged.

Has anyone else seen this problem?
We have "display image status in consle" enabled.  I'm wondering if this consistant communication with the DS server can cause the read error to break when there is a DS communication hiccup.
Given the age of Redploy, is it just getting too old to handle such large images?
I'm thinking of moving to ghost but concerned a different issue may come up.  It also looks like I'll lose imaging progress status. I did notice in the USB tests ghost was able to transfer the image about twice as fast.

We had something similar

We had something similar happening a while back when we had dhcp lease times set really low, and it was updating the DHCP lease partway through the image task, but that was on DOS PXE, and I'd be surprised if it would cause the same problem on WinPE.
