  • 1.  RDeploy problems with WinXP SP3 images on VM?

I usually create my gold image in VMWare, sysprep it, then PXE boot the VM and grab the image using RDeploy.

This has worked fine for years, but when I create an image from scratch from a slipstreamed XP SP3 CD, rdeploy bombs out with a "disk not found" error. I've repeated the process with just the bare minimum steps and had the same problem.

Is there some sort of partition fix that needs to be done to make SP3 images friendly?

    Thanks,

    ZC

It sounds like you updated your vmplayer to a 2.XX version. I did that some time ago and found that my usb devices now worked in the vm session, but I received the error you mentioned above. When I lost all my vm's with an HD crash, I rebuilt them and use them with the vmplayer 1.09. Now I can make and restore images as you describe above. My images are all XP sp3. My system is a Linux Suse 10.1 Novell host with 4 vm sessions available, 2 working XP sessions, a clean one for testing stuff and a win2000 for some reason. Oh, the Vmware on it is workstation 5.5. I believe your issue is the vmware at any rate. Regards.

When I do exactly the same steps with an image that I created with an SP2 slipstreamed CD and then upgraded to SP3, it works fine. Somehow doing the initial install with the SP3 CD is the only thing that makes the difference. I don't know if it sets up the partition table differently - I know Vista has some weirdness like that since after a partition resize you sometimes have to repair.
