  • 1.  RDEPLOY vs GHOST

    Hey All,

Forgive my ignorance, but until I entered the wonderful world of Altiris, I had never heard of rdeploy.  It is what my predecessor used in DS 6.9 for imaging, so I have continued to do so.

As I begin setting up imaging in DS 7.1, I finally started to wonder why someone would use rdeploy over ghost imaging.  I have found articles about rdeploy vs. WIM which seems to largely come down to multicasting ability, which ghost images can also leverage.

Can anyone explain to me the difference, advantages/disadvantges of one over the other?

Either work fine, but someone at Symantec told me that no more development will be done with rdeploy, if something new comes out down the line would be for ghost, so we're using ghost as our standard.

Sally5432 is right.  This would also mean that if you were to continue using RDeploy in future releases of the DS suite, you would end up unsupported if there was an issue.  Essentially, they have been telling everyone at the user group meetings that you should begin now in moving your imaging process over from RDeploy if you are still there.

I've found that Ghost does a better job of realigning the sectors (when deploying an image from a standard drive to an Advanced Format drive).
